Psychiatric coercion is not right. Civil commitment should be illegal. Suicide should be considered a human right. Mental illness does not literally a exist. A sick joke is not literally sick. A brain and body can be literally sick. A mind cannot be literally sick. A mind can only be metaphorically sick.
Alzheimer’s disease and neurosyphilis are real, literal diseases. Mental illness is not real and literal disease. It is metaphorical disease, and the diagnostic criteria of all the mental disorders have been voted into existence. Emotional distress certainly does exist. Yet, emotional distress is not necessarily a brain disorder. That all seems like common sense, or at least that it should be.
Do not forget that there are objective medical tests to determine if someone suffers from a bodily disorder. There are no objective medical/bodily tests to see if someone is suffering from any mental disorder. Furthermore, if there were objective medical tests to determine if someone is suffering from a mental disorder, it would no longer be a mental disorder, it would be a bodily/brain disorder. That seems like common sense, or at least that it should be.
If delusions and hallucinations are present because of a brain disorder, then they are not mental illness, they are symptom of brain illness. You believe individuals can have an objective mental illness and therefore be objectively mentally ill and justifiably be a real mental patient? A couple of hundred years ago, many individuals believed that witches exist. It does not mean that it was ever true. Just because the majority of individuals think that mental illness exists does not make it objectively true.
Civil commitment and the insanity defense should be illegal. The idea of mental illness is used to justify the effective imprisonment of individuals who have committed no crime. This is not right. For adults, suicide should be considered a civil right. Mental illness does not literally exist and should not be used to imprison innocents.
